Communications Specialist

The Communications Specialist will report to the Communications Director with strategic and tactical support of all internal and external communications programs and initiatives, which include town hall, HR communication, corporate communication, brand launch initiatives, reputation management, business continuity, public relations and corporate social responsibility.

The person in this role will work to promote and position the company favorably to key stakeholders including current/potential employees, customers, service providers, partners, the news media and the community at large. They will works closely with other departments, as well as external partners and stakeholders, to deliver and execute communications plans that are strategic, measurable and aligned with corporate and/or divisional goals.

This role serves Human Resources, Marketing and the office of the CEO, and is critical to the success of CEO and company goals as Cross Country Home Services seeks to be the preeminent player in the home services industry.

Key Duties

  • Provide communications support that helps drive the success of individual projects as well as enterprise goals
  • Write and/or edit press releases, bios, by-lines, talking points, media statements and other written communication tools
  • Ability to work with vendors on key plans and projects, managing deadlines and timelines
  • Management and ongoing development of employee newsletter
  • Responsible for establishing and enabling a community relations strategy and developing processes to support it
  • Responsible for timely upload of news, communication and other material to internal and external sites
  • Support for company events such as employee giveaways, contests, holiday parties and town halls
  • Tracking and maintaining log of media coverage, issues management and responses
  • Ability to manage calendar of deadlines across a variety of functions
  • Other duties as assigned.


Experience & Requisite Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree minimum
  • 5+ years of experience in combined corporate communication, public relations, social media and/or related fields
  • Possess a high level understanding of techniques and strategies for using a variety of internal, external and social media communications channels.
  • Proven track record of writing internal and external communication
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and MS Outlook, expertise in PowerPoint
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Experienced with event logistics
  • Understanding of the integration of marketing, communications and digital media functions in business; reputation management a plus
  • Understanding of all communications vehicles and technology, including print, web, video, broadcast, and social media
  • Creative with both writing and design concepts
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing needs and requests, and shift attention quickly to meet urgent deadlines
  • Enjoys building relationships and collaborating with different roles and personalities in the organization who are collectively working towards the same objectives
